Hurn Parish Council
I spent a very pleasant hour last night at the meeting of the Hurn Parish Council at Hurn Sports Club. I wanted to see how local parish democracy was working and I have to say I was impressed. The presentation of a petition to the Council by local kids for a skate park facility touched a nerve especially as they said they wanted to be part of the fund raising process. It made me think again how we should look at Christchurch as a whole before embarking on expensive projects so that everyone gets a fair share of what we can do. The policy of''not so much for the community but by the community'' comes home when faced with kids and families prepared to contribute to make their communities better. We also touched on the thorny issue of high speed broadband and again I was impressed to see local action being determined through the democratic process and getting support from the populous, similarly how local action was determining a heads up approach to littering and fly tipping. All in all an impressive evening.
