July, a waste month.
For the rest of this month I and my environment team will be wrestling with the knotty problem of waste collection. As you are aware we joined the Dorset Waste partnership to take advantage of considerable savings to the taxpayer by joining forces with other Districts, Boroughs and County and developing a system designed to reduce land fill and increase recycling. So we will be attending workshops, listening to experts with the objective of making the whole process more efficient and collecting the financial benefits along the way. I am on a steep learning curve as are my colleagues about this subject and I have to say I had no concept of the enormity of the task as detailed by the massive tonnage involved or the logistics and material handling of the stuff we dispose of. However we will ensure that our current high standards prevail and I have to say that I am encouraged that since we joined the partnership on the 1st April no deterioration of the service has been reported. I just hope that one of the efficiencies will result in the removal of the recycle bins at Stanpit Marsh car park!!
