Flooding, a long term issue.

Being a coastal town and one that is blessed with rivers and streams flowing right in the heart of our community it is hardly surprising that we as a Council have to pay a great deal of attention to the potential of serious flooding.Just look around the Borough and see what brilliant work has been undertaken by our engineering team over the last thirty years or so which has been so successful in preventing a major incident but if water level and rainfall predictions are proved correct we have to be aware that considerable risks are ahead of us and from what legislation is coming out of government we are going to have to tackle this on our own. Quite how this is going to play out I am not sure but I have asked our County Councillors to take up the mantle with County and will be directing missives to government as to how we can be supported financially over many years to deal with the issues which in reality are already blighting parts of our conurbation. One thing I am sure about is that residents need to know more about the issue, Councillors have to be aware of their duties in respect of the ward dangers so I do intend to be as transparent as possible when dealing with this problem. So expect more events like the recent 'flood fair' but be assured that CBC is on the case and again punching above our weight in seeing that we are dealt with fairly compared with our bigger neighbours.
