What a week!!!

This week started for me on Sunday morning when I attended the inauguration of the new Council at the Priory. This entails the whole council properly robed, The Mayor in her magnificent regalia, Aldermen and Freemen duly attired in red robes processing along the High street behind the scout's band from the mayor's parlour. Along with us, Parish dignitaries, the member of Parliament,Police and County Councillors. Whilst this is a bit daunting and to a certain extent embarrassing it does continue a custom that can be traced back over one thousand years and in my opinion should be supported. From the crowds of people lining the high street which included many tourists the occasion has a resonance with the public and befits the ancient Borough of Christchurch. What's more it is fun and that is a commodity that is hard to come by in these difficult socio/economic times. In short the day was colourful but dignified and showed Christchurch as it's best. The service in the Priory was attended by many volunteers and community organisations. After the service the Council retired to have the annual photograph taken which will adorn the council chamber for the next twelve months. Together with the visit to the Burton veterans day, a very good start to the week.
