PACT meeting last night

Crowds of residents turned up for last nights PACT meeting at the Methodist Church in Mudeford Lane. If the numbers keep increasing we will have to get more chairs or move to a bigger venue! Such is the strength of this community of Purewell and Stanpit. Most encouraging was the attendance of new residents to the PACT process and how complimentary they were having seen how we work at PACT for the first time. Purewell Cross round-a-bout was discussed at length and a copy of the Highways managers report made available for all to see. In essence not much more can be done and it was noted that no traffic incidents had been reported for the whole of 2010. The crossing at Stanpit to the shops was again raised although this has long been discarded as an option due to the effect on the vitality of the essential shopping area if the parking restrictions were applied. It was agreed that the whole presence of Purewell Cross had been greatly improved by the new bollards and balustrades, upgrading the area considerably. Parked cars presented a contentious topic with the request to the police and CBC that they should take firmer stance on the cars parked by local garages and those left untaxed. The police report received a round of applause as it was so positive and reflected a sea change in the levels of ASB and criminal activity in Purewell and Stanpit, what a difference from four years ago when we took over from the Liberals who had done nothing in six years to deal with the problem. Classic was the report about the situation regarding the closure of a dealing house in the area as a result of information given to us in one of our street corner PACT meetings. So a good evening working at the heart of the community which again proves to me that ''its working for the community that gets the community working''.
