Summer brings it's problems.
It seems to be inevitable that when the sun comes out and the temperature rises so do complaints to the Council about noisy neighbours and concern over kids being out and about causing issues. I have to say that most residents are very reasonable and do respond to our Environment Officers regarding the former but the kids are another issue entirely. By early intervention and that means a visible presence of Police, Police Community Officers and other partners,we have managed to maintain a balance which is certainly an improvement on previous years. What I mean by balance is that the kids can have a good time having respect for neighbours and not get into mischief as a result of under age drugs and alcohol consumption. The word has to be out there that we cannot tolerate kids as young as twelve being out and about, day or night, armed with booze. Just last week officers confiscated a hoard of beer, cider and even vodka from some kids heading for the beach. They were all in their early teens. Random bonfires as in the case of beach parties are also concerning us and we have a zero tolerance to them so officers will act accordingly. We encourage healthy pursuits, we want everyone to enjoy this wonderful place but always empathising with other residents and visitors whilst treating our environment with respect and having a pride in our Borough.
