Two Riversmeet new facilities opened yesterday
I t was a bit of a thrill for me meeting one of my heroes at the opening of the all weather pitches at 2RM yesterday. I am talking about Sir Geoff Hurst our hat trick scoring world cup star from 1966,for those not versed in soccer history, that's when we beat Germany in the final to lift the World Cup. But a bigger thrill was to see opened this marvellous facility of all weather pitches of the highest quality and of course the exciting BMX track in my ward of Purewell and Stanpit. On being elected a Councillor in 2007 I was determined to support the work already done by Councillor Mike Duckworth and make sure that this Conservative initiated project proceeded to completion so it was as bit of a buzz to see the many teams, celebrities and residents who turned up for the official cutting of the ribbon and indeed test the surface of the pitches for myself.(I took a pass on the BMX track!) The legacy this sort of project brings to the community is massive and shows how clearly our policy of investing in and for young people brings dividends for years to come. It is also very nice to be able to say when asked ''did you deliver on your promises''........... ''yes we did''.
