Speeding along Stanpit
Despite all the work done over the last two years, I am still getting complaints about speeding vehicles along Stanpit. We have made a considerable difference with the introduction of the calming system but once through traffic appears so I am told, to speed up causing concern to pedestrians. I am also told that heavy HGV vehicle usage of this road is increasing although I have to say that I have not experienced that for myself. House builders are at work at no 52/54 so maybe that is the problem. We took speed data last year and established the reduction as a result of the calming and I want to repeat this exercise this year to see if there is further reduction following the alterations to the system and the new island crossing at Purewell. I have also written to PC Joel Brooks asking him to make the Police presence felt by getting out with the mobile cameras to see if this makes a difference. All over the Borough residents express concern about speeding traffic but when we activate the forces of law we find it very likely that residents are found to be the problem. A conundrum only answered by education I think. The perception of speeding traffic and anti-social driving as a significant problem in Christchurch rates as highest in the whole County and clearly this is not acceptable.
