Work on the crossing refuge at Purewell
You will have seen the work which has now started to enlarge the refuge island at Purewell Cross. Dorset County Council highlighted this point as having the highest footfall so by enlarging the island to be big enough for wheel chairs or prams and narrowing the highway from Somerford road to Stanpit, we have a solution which will assist pedestrians to cross the road as well as helping to slow traffic entering Stanpit from either the roundabout or Somerford. As a result we maintain the parking places outside the convenience store allowing loading and unloading of deliveries for that and the other businesses. This in my opinion is a balanced decision which will still enable us to approach the new Dorset Highways Agency, which comes into effect 1st May. for a comprehensive safety review of the whole junction and intersections at a later date.
