DPPO Consultation for Purewell and Stanpit

We are now in the consultation period for the Designated Public Place Order which reviews Christchurch town centre Purewell and Mudeford Wood in respect of alcohol consumption in a public place which leads to the public considering that acts of anti-social behaviour are either taking place or will likely take place as a result. A Police Constable would be able to issue a warning to the perpetrators and if the individual refuses to comply then an offence is committed and the Constable can confiscate the alcohol. The consultation ends on Friday 26th March this year so if anyone has concerns or suggestions then please do not hesitate to contribute as your input is highly valued. It has to be said that these powers are not draconian and do not automatically make it an offence to consume alcohol in the areas nor does it apply to under 18 year old where the Police have separate powers in respect of under age drinking. This is very much a prudent review and clarification of existing policies and the necessary signage which would be on show in the designated areas. It further shows that partnership and involvement with the community is paramount before policy is implemented.
