The rewards of being a local Councillor

I have no problem knocking on any ones front door in Purewell and Stanpit because I know just how much effort I have put in to the community over the last two years. However this satisfaction, call it reward if you like, pales into insignificance when the person who answers the front door tells you just that. The number of people who have not only recognised me but also have told me their lot is so much better because of the initiatives I have taken and described the benefits they have derived especially from partnership working with the police and other agencies is more than satisfying. Residents have told me that they feel safer now and are delighted that they can see the results of our attitude to those persons young or old, male or female who were causing mayhem in our neighbourhoods. But, most satisfying was the reawakening of pride of place and people recognising and saying that Purewell and Stanpit is a fantastic place to live and as custodians we should treasure it, care for it and pass it on in a better shape than when we found it.
It would be equally rewarding to do the same thing for Christchurch Central.
