A personal statement

As you can imagine canvasing has been dominated by the 'cash in a flash' Parliamentary members who have apparently taken advantage of a weak management system and claimed for expenses which should not of even been considered as being a cost of their employment. The incredulity with which the revelations have been received by constituents is alarming in that yet another institution upon which we gave our trust has been shown to be seriously flawed. I come from a generation that revered statesmen, those that would put the priorities of their constituents before their own. Those that when responsibilities were thrust upon them they acted unselfishly for the betterment of others.Just what has happened over the last thirteen years to change this attitude frankly baffles me. Just why this institution so respected in the whole world has allowed those fortunate enough to be given the chance to serve their constituents and in some case their country to self destruct in an orgy of allegedly false accounting indicates a failing of indescribable incompetence. That the trust in Parliament has been so dented requires a root and branch clear out of those members responsible and a total review of the employment contracts of members. . Without it our democratic system is put at jeopardy.
