Town Centre Traffic

In 2003 CBC spent loads of money employing consultants to produce a Town Centre Strategy which they diligently did. The result was a prodigious tome which has been the core of Town Centre thinking ever since. At its heart was the problem of the Fountain roundabout and the road system along the high street. It was projected that Dorset County Council who hold the Highways budget would look at this and give CBC design ideas for the area in terms of traffic flow.Since then Waitrose has moved in so traffic is even greater and generally the whole area is worsening in terms of traffic flow and safety for pedestrians. It is not surprising therefore that residents are getting more and more concerned with speeding and reckless driving and road traffic collisions in Christchurch are increasing.Just why County has not responded I am not sure but as this is solely under their control I would have thought that pressure should and could be applied to at least get them to look at the problem. Maybe it needs a strong County Councillor to stand up for Christchurch and make sure that something is done.If we have to wait another five years the whole place will be grid locked.
