Stanpit Marsh Visitor Centre

Just back from a presentation at the Visitor centre, it has won a prestigious award for sustainability in architecture. Against tough opposition the centre was commended for design and build form as well as the ingenious use of sources of natural power including wind and solar energy. The Friends of Stanpit Marsh, whose original concept this was can be duly proud of their achievement as can Peter Holloway the CBC officer who has nurtured the project through very difficult times. The residents of Purewell and Stanpit not only have on their doorstep one of the most important wildlife sites in the country, but now an award winning and unique facility where they can be part of the project to sustain the area and make sure we pass it on in good shape. This means treating the marsh with the respect it deserves, empathising with the flora and fauna by keeping disturbance to an absolute minimum. Dog walkers to keep their animals under proper control so that birds are not disturbed at crucial times.Canoeists and boaters should avoid landing at remote areas and general users keep to the paths. Not too much to ask is it?
