Roeshot Gravel Extraction
You will have read about the potential gravel extraction site at Roeshot.I made my protest about this many months ago and was delighted to see that Councillor Denise Jones had called a meeting of residents just before Christmas at the Somerford Centre to express their total opposition. Unfortunately I was incapacitated and could not attend but many people turned up and the meeting got great publicity. The main issue for me is that the process will require the most incredible increase of heavy transport passing through Christchurch. Projections vary but it could be that for the rest of my life and beyond Christchurch would be subjected to hundreds of dripping, gravel laden ten wheelers passing through our town every day. Let alone the proximity of the site to residential areas and the effect on our water table and wild life, this is a very serious problem. My view is that we should have the right as a community to impose an immediate ban on lorries above a certain weight limit passing through our built up areas. Even now we do not have a weight limit along Bridge Street and this should be something that should be introduced sooner rather than later. Well done to Denise for bringing this matter to the surface I for one support her 100%
