Trees in Stanpit and Purewell
A disturbing fact emerged from a discussion with our open space team just before Christmas. CBC on balance remove more trees as a result of natural wastage, weather damage and resident complaints than are re-planted. This is quite disturbing and I wonder if we should introduce a policy that deals with this problem by insisting that we should adopt a one for one policy of replacement as well as a catch up program. So many times I am approached by residents who consider that trees in their close proximity are taking light or shedding leaves and they want them removed. The effect on our area, should we concede to these demands, would be considerable and I have to say that on balance I am not in favour of removing tree for cosmetic reasons.Often this problem comes from an attitude that trees are easily dispensable and are not an area amenity, I disagree and will deal with any matters arising accordingly.
