Navitas

At the recent Community Services meeting this issue was again discussed by members in light of the Councils position as a statutory contributor to the process and the need to record the direction we should take in respect of the environmental impact of the project. I was pleased to see a balanced report of this discussion in the high quality local newspaper. The interest generated has been considerable with concerns from some sectors and support for the project from others. As a rough guide and confirmed by resident groups the retired population appear to be against the project whilst the younger element appear relatively passive but with some support for the scheme. What concerns me is that at some time we will have to make a hard decision as to where we stand should the national planning process being used comes to a decision that does not reflect the majority resident view. I have blogged before detailing my concerns regarding the location of the wind farm, the environmental issues and the huge level of subsidies as well as the concerns expressed by those involved in our tourist industry, but I do want to understand clearly the views of all residents not just those who have taken an intense interest in the subject. The decisions taken so far by Crown Estates and HMG have by passed local democracy so I want to be on firm ground when called upon to contribute in the forthcoming debate. So please respond directly to me or through your Councillor, resident association, MP so that we can get some sort of consensus going forward. Many thanks.
