The end of the world!!

I understand that some challenged persons are predicting that this coming Friday will see the end of the world! So a few of my mates will meet up at our local hostelry for lunch at least we will not meet our demise on an empty stomach or with a lack of humour. We have a good safe life here in Christchurch; news from America of the school shooting really does put into perspective how insignificant the issues we face are compared with the savagery shown towards those children. Perhaps we should dwell on how fortunate we are and that the problems we face cannot compare with the loss of the lives of those tots and the mayhem left for their families. Indeed, the worldwide reputation of the whole country that is supposed to deliver the American dream, and freedom is battered again by the action of one deranged person. Freedom is one thing, freedom to legitamately hold firearms and use them on innocent children is another, it is deplored. So when I go to the office in the morning to deal head on with the problems of the day, when I read critical letters from residents about the closure of this place and that place or the inconvenience of fallen leaves in the gutter, when I get irate phone calls from members about a planting scheme or a road closure or the fact that someone makes offers they cannot fulfil, I will dwell on what it must feel like living in that small town in Connecticut. Hopefully others will do the same and recognise how lucky we are!

Councillor Nottage

I am very pleased that you and your mates will be going to the local hostelry for luch. Are you aware that in the last two years, the number of residents having to receive food packs from the Food Bank has increased to such proportion that it has now become necessary to offer an additional service to enable these people to eat, and it is hoped thaat this additional service will become operational within the next few weeks.

You wouldn't believe that in a place such as Christchurch, such action is necessary. However because you and your government are not only taking jobs away, they are cutting the benefits of those who are living on the bread line. Although the Conservative Party keeps saying "We are in it together", I can't really see those people who are fed from the Food Bank seeing much proof of this.

No doubt Councillor, you will say that all this is due to the last Labour Government.

May I also respectfully make a comment on the section "We have a good safe life here in Christchurch". Have you spoken to the Postmaster of Highcliffe Post Office recently. I just happened to be there not many minutes after the incident happened and I certainly don't remember the Postmaster standing on the pavement outside his Post Office shouting the joys of "we have a good safe life here in Christchurch". I think he may be a little concerned about life in his Post Office once the policing levels have been slashed again.

Councillor, Carols with the Mayor celebrated its fourth aniversary last night at Christchurch Priory. May I respectfully point out that this is the first time that this event has not been attended by the Leader of the Council. I also find it pleasurable to say that the CEO has done his first good deed for Christchurch residents by keeping away from the concert.

Should you wish to see evidence of how safe Christchurch is as a place to live work and visit you only have to log in to Dorset4u and check the latest CSP statistics. Taking a single incident and building it up to represent a Borough wide trend is negative opportunism.Further in Christchurch we are at present jobs positive according to the latest statistics with huge potential at the Airport for expansion, a vibrant high street with footfall figures up.

The comments about my non attendance of the Carol service the reason for which you have no knowledge is further evidence of your negativity and opportunist opposition to this administration and what it has acheived. Your comments about our excellent Chief Excecutive based on an ignorance of the facts. Does this represent the views of your Independent collegues? Perhaps you should be as I do celebrate the generosity of the residents of Christchurch to the various schemes in place to reduce hardship across the Borough including of course the Mayors charity.

Dear Councillor Nottage

The Mayans did not actually suggest the end of the world but the end of one cycle pattern in the world's history and the commencement of a new one. What's more they even suggested that the change in cycle would be associated with a'deluge'. Thus they were not wrong as I think we can all safely say that wherever we are in the UK, we've had one hell of a deluge in recent months!

Thanks for that very useful. I shall make sure that I am better informed in respect of Mayan predictions. I have in fact been to see some of the temple ruins. Fascinating culture.
