Business Angels in Christchurch

Last night I had the privilege of addressing fifty or so delegates to a conference organised by a group of business angels encouraging existing businesses, new businesses and budding entrepreneurs to look seriously at locating in Christchurch. Growth of our Borough wide business base is going to be essential, not just in terms of economical issues but also if we can encourage the multitude of talent coming from our colleges and universities to stay in the area to live work and play. Last week I visited such a business that relocated some two years ago and is now wanting to expand further just two years into a five year plan. What impressed me were the hundreds of young people they employ from a very wide range of skills set and qualifications. I used this as an example in my speech of just why Christchurch is a good place to work and a good place for businesses to thrive. I heard today that the presentation was received very well and there may be a number of follow ups leading to some new opportunities. One interesting incident though, one of the delegates fell off his chair .....at the beginning of my piece, normally they nod off at the end!!!
