Christchurch Police response
Yesterday I had cause to send a message to our local Police and Community Support Officer via my mobile because of mine and neighbours concern as a result of some recent incidents of theft of boats. We had been advised that should we be concerned about anything then get a message through and they would respond. As it happens I was able to deal with the situation and cancelled the message five minutes later. Too late! They were already on my doorstep and very supportative. As I sent them on their way with much back slapping, I reflected that there were a couple of real positives here. The first is that I because I had access to modern technology i.e. my I-phone I was able to ping a message straight to the Officer. The important issue is that I had his mobile number, the messaging system was a bonus but it clearly worked. The second positive is the brilliant response of the Police Officer which says loads about our local Police force and their reaction to community issues. Most residents are not aware that under section 17 of the 1998 Crime and disorder act Councils do have responsibility to reduce crime and reoffending and this permeates down to Ward level through the local Councillor. Here we saw a bit of partnership working, so the system really works. Well done to Christchurch Police.
