Police and Crime Commissioner
Following a 'husting' at Wimborn last Sunday we now have a Conservative candidate for the post of Police and Crime Commissioner he is Cllr Nick King from Bournemouth and I dare say he is going to have hit the road running if the election in November of this year is going to be supported by the populace. I spend a great deal of my time talking to residents about this direction whereby the existing Police Authorities are replaced by an elected Commissioner and am not getting any indication that the majority knows what is going on. Despite much coverage and political posturing I think a huge amount of work is needed to excite the population to vote and make it quite clear what it is they are voting for. On Tuesdays full Council meeting the p/f holder for the community will be making a statement about the appointment and describing to members what it is all about, if you can find the time come along and listen. In my role as Chair of Dorset Community Safty Partnership I have arranged an urgent meeting with Nick to discuss where we are with Crime and Disorder in Dorset and to explain the difference we have made in the last five years which if I say myself is remarkable. More from me on that meeting later this month.

I agree with Cllr Nottage and hope members of the public will turn up at CBC's next full council meet where I will explain the role of the forthcoming Police & Crime Commissioner and just as importantly the role of the Police Crime Panel who will scrutinise the Police Commissioner making sure he is doing his job.
