Christchurch Festival, great weekend, great people.
To those knockers of Christchurch town centre this weekend must be quite an enigma! Even Victor Meldew would have HAD a smile on his face to see how the community came together with the absolute support of CBC to put on dance displays all over the town including Saxon Square and in support of the Mayors charity. The dancers all gave their time freely, the organisers worked tirelessly through the weekend to keep the whole atmosphere vibrant and welcoming to visitors. And guess what? All the businesses were busy, the Quomps alive with children’s laughter from the free splash park and the excellent live music from the performers. Is this the dull and dead town centre I read about in the comments in the Echo? Druitt Gardens full of families some strolling in safety, some picnicking and enjoying the new setting. Is this the disaster I read about from woodland specialists that let the place go to rack and ruin by their constant objections to change and improvement. What I saw was a vibrant, 'alive and kicking' community working together to produce a fun weekend in this ancient town. Congratulations to all of those residents who gave their time and expertise to make this weekend a time to remember. Well done to those who gave us some fun displays in the Red House museum, and to the folk dancers, the line dancers, the belly dancers (brilliant) and the performers every single one of them contributing to the wellbeing of this place called Christchurch. And to the knockers, just get out a bit more this town is leaving you behind! Oh and well done to CBC for facilitating and enabling the event and for all the Councillors who supported the Mayor as he toured the town brilliantly displaying the benefits of our Mayoral heritage. The next event the Olympic torch parade on the 14th July together with ‘Fit Christchurch’ in New Zealand gardens. All 'Christchurch knockers' welcome!!!!
