Yesterday's surgery
The first week in May and I was looking forward to holding our surgery in warm sunshine sat in the pretty garden at St John’s. Instead we took benefit from the new central heating working at full pelt to overcome temperatures lower than Christmas. None the less we were very busy and our one hour turned into two! Key issues are to do with indiscriminate parking across the ward which is causing great concern to residents. Cllr Davis has all the details and will be talking to our enforcement team next week. The new waste process scheduled for an October start is also taxing residents but we were able to tell them that every resident would be getting an explanatory leaflet in the next few days, following that we will be able to help with any problems. There will be teething difficulties but I take heart that where this system has been deployed in other parts of the Country residents have seen the advantages. One of our constituents was concerned about the difference between periodic and assured tenancy on their social housing and I am going to look at that for them next week. Finally we had a visit from a Bournemouth Hospital Governor asking us to take up an issue about Christchurch/ Bournemouth hospital orthopaedic facilities. This as a result of one of my earlier blogs. Cllr Davis is on the shadow Health and Wellbeing Board which will in the fullness of time take over the role of the PCT and he is going to follow this through. It does occur to me that there must be something awry with the business structure of the hospital if the governors are turning to the Council to resolve issues, however that is for another discussion. Following surgery we went to the Homewatch safety day at the Stanpit village hall. What a great turnout! Well supported by the agencies including Police, Fire and Marine patrol and of course CBC but even more importantly, so well attended by residents. And they supplied lunch and wine donated as I understand from one of our local supermarkets. Well done to the Homewatch team, really impressive!
