Stanpit Village Hall Golden Jubilee

When a community comes together as it did yesterday to celebrate 50 years since the Stanpit Village Hall rebuild following a massive fire, it warms the cockles of my heart. From 11 am through until 4 pm a steady stream of residents was able to see the history of this community stretching back to the dawn of the last century and in fact back to antiquity (Tuttons Well). Free catering which included an enormous hog roast, tombola, treasure trove map, and displays by all the users of the hall including wood carvers plus the Tuttons well team and a very reasonably priced bar made sure that residents celebrated the life of this vibrant community facility. And on the stage a rolling film of all various trawler races before 'elf and safety' took over. The early photographs of the fishing community included the classic photo of the last Sturgeon caught in the UK which eventually got buried somewhere along Fishermans Bank, showed how our community of Stanpit and Mudeford developed, what a hard life those early residents had! Most important were all the reunions going on and the regeneration of friendships which have suffered through our reliance on television for entertainment and contact and of course this computer driven age. So many times through the afternoon I heard stories of what this community was like fifty years ago, well that's what you do when you meet old chums! Congratulations to the Stanpit Hall Committee and all the helpers, a great day, wonderful memories and lots of laughter. Just the ticket for a wet Bank Holiday Monday.
