Punching above our weight at County

Three subjects dominated the recent high level meeting with Dorset County Council when a delegation attended CBC offices including the Chief Executive and the Cabinet spokesman for Roads and Transport. Although not included in the Local Transport Plan we agreed that the aspiration for an outer relief road should not be abandoned especially in light of potential increase in heavy vehicles through Christchurch especially if the Hampshire gravel extraction project proceeds at the East of the Borough. That DCC and CBC should work together to make our High Street a better experience for shoppers, residents and visitors. That action should be taken to rationalise the Fountain roundabout and the Waitrose dumbell to ensure a linkage of our High Street and a smoother traffic flow from the so called existing by-pass. We are now gathering evidence and advice from as many interested parties as possible so that what we do is based on the needs and objectives of our community as well as supporting a thriving High Street and an infrastructure to support and grow our local industries. County are currently applying for funding to improve sustainable transport links from Poole to Christchurch so if they are successful we will see even more improvements for cyclists and public transport.
