The recent spate of summer weather brought visitors to the town in their droves. The town centre took on a continental aspect with people using the alfresco Saxon Square areas in abundance. Even along the High Street the cosmopolitan atmosphere prevailed and whilst the works on the bridge is a real pain for traffic the whole area became a haven for pedestrians meandering along the road looking at the sites and enjoying the delights of the river frontage in absolute safety. Ice creams in the hands of tots in push chairs, busy shops and a great family atmosphere. All this because the sun was shining, what has happened to our proper summers?
Only one downside was the dreadful litter both in the town and especially the quays, it may be time for an overview of how we pursue litter droppers, maybe we should look at using fixed and mobile CCTV facilities to get the message through that litter should be taken home or properly binned not just thrown on the roads and pavements.
