CBC countyside volunteers
I had the privilege to walk in the protected reed beds today with Peter Holloway, CBC Countryside Officer and Gilbert Hough who is part of the whole CBC Countryside volunteer group.Together with other volunteers from groups like CHOG and the Wildfowlers they form a programme of activity for the winter designed to keep the wild parts of the marsh alive and sustainable. They do a fantastic job but are running very short of muscle and their ambitious program for this winter is under pressure because they do not have enough people to help. If you are any way inclined to join them please either let me know through this medium or contact Peter Holloway direct on 01202 495000. The wetland areas are just as important as the usable dry areas especially for flora and fauna under threat. Learning about the various wild life habitats and corridors is really quite fascinating especially as this wetland is right on our doorstep.I would be very happy to see an army of volunteers tackling some of the areas which are not available for grazing due to various reasons but mainly because we cannot afford to fence them off to keep grazing stock in. If you really want to make a contribution and get involved with a satisfying activity ring Peter.
