I have received a letter from the Home affairs committee at the House of Commons asking me to contribute written comments to the enquiry in respect of the new direction the coalition is taking in respect of Policing in the 21st Century under the 'Big Society' agenda. This includes the election of Police commissioners to oversee the police replacing the existing Police Authority and the formation of police panels to do similar to the police and the police commissioners. Based on my experience at County level Crime and disorder partnerships and the Community Safety partnership that I now chair, I do have a number of concerns which I will illustrate to the committee but should there be any contribution which the readers of this blog wish me to consider I would greatly appreciate your comments or contributions.
I will be publishing my letter to the committee in this blog within the next couple of weeks.
