Saturday surgery

It's amazing how quickly a month passes by, it seems like no time at all that I was meeting residents at St John's in May and now it is June and whole new crop of visitors and problems. As a result of a complaint from a resident on Saturday I have visited and initiated a clean up of the path which runs along the back of the Methodist Church and asked Sparky to be aware of anti-social activities from a bunch of kids with nothing better to do.On that subject fires were started in the scrub land at the back of La Nautica and again our local CPSO will engage. Speeding traffic again surfaced as a problem so yet another appeal to the Police to get the cameras out at strategic positions along Stanpit and Purewell. The 20 mph target is still in our sights and we are asking for speed data collection along Stanpit so that we can compare with a year ago. Buses along Purewell and their stay over at the Council offices are again under scrutiny as are the various new routes that keep popping up unexpectedly. So a very busy couple of hours culminating in the whole subject of safety concerns at the Purewell roundabout and the imminent SEC contract to give more energy efficient and uniform illumination to Stanpit. All items are being dealt with bar one and that is out of my control and ward. It concerns the dumping of stuff associated with a business activity on the businesses own land. This is a very problematical matter to deal with as we have no jurisdiction as to what an owner does with his land unless it involves a statutory duty such as health from hazardous waste for instance. In this case I will be asking the ward Councillors to look at the issue and see what they can do. I hate passing on a problem but that is as much as I can contribute.
