'Dangerous play will get you sent off - domestic violence will get you sent down'.
A fairly tough slogan is being launched this week by Dorset Police to keep domestic violence (DV) offenders focused during this world cup month. DV seems to increase during this type of competition as frustrations build and emotions run high. The message is that it simply is not worth risking the offenders liberty for losing control and temper. Police are also aware that the likely incidence of injury due to alcohol fueled disputes following important games is of considerable concern and are directing their attention on early intervention and regular patrols of likely trouble hot spots. In Christchurch we have recorded some of the biggest reductions in this sort of crime following partnership working with all agencies and it would be a great shame to see our record tarnished as a result of a game in far away Africa. The message is simple stay cool, stay sober and keep out of trouble.
