Christchurch Bowling Club
A year ago, during the County Council election the Christchurch cell of the Liberal party hinged their campaign on the demise of this old established and highly valued sports club. The tenure of the Liberal argument was that that Christchurch Council had and was doing nothing to secure the future of the club and in some way blaming the Council and the local governance for the rapid demise of membership.Further the inference was that some sort of conspiracy existed with the owners and developers of the new Hotel facility which contributed to the situation. A year later we find from the recent article in the Echo that membership has fallen further to something like 40 members and the crisis deepens. Acknowledgement is given by the club however to the continual support from CBC and I know that this matter is high on the local Council agenda with the objective of giving further advice and guidance. What baffles me is just what support has been given over the last year by the County Councillor who saw fit to use this as a County election issue whilst purporting to promote some far reaching solution tho the problem on his return to County as the elected County member for Town Centre. In fact any reasonable person would conclude that this and indeed other high profile issues to which our representative has laid claim to has just been left to fester with little contribution or interest that is, until another local election comes along.
