I have just finished my walkabout along Purewell to look at the issue raised in the posted traffic order.I can relate to all the comments included in the petition to the Council and am even more determined to oppose the recommendations set out in the Highways report.I can say no more and apart from waiting until the report is presented to Community Services Committee when I shall call for whole presentation to be directed to the recycle bin.

To remove the proposed parking spaces along Purewell so that buses can travel along at a quicker pace is completely unacceptable. If this speeds up the trafric for the buses, it will also speed up the traffic for everyone else and this is going against everything we are fighting for along Purewell. It is good to see that our Councillors, and our local PACT are also supporting this.
No one is suggesting the buses will go FASTER! Anyone who uses the road regularly will know that it is sometimes impossible for buses to move due to parked cars and lorries. Like it or not, Purewell always has been and will continue to be a main arterial road into and out of Christchurch and must be kept free moving. There are clearly places where currently allowed parking obstructs traffic flow and this needs addressing.
It is now only 2 days until the decision on this proposal is to be made. Having instigated a petition against this, I am now wanting to have my say on a more personal note. I have personally been losing sleep over the prospect of having the traffic move ever closer and ever faster directly outside my house. The parking is very much needed in the evenings and on Sundays and I feel that there has to be an alternative to taking away all the parking spaces in Purewell. Having limited parking as opposed to NO parking at any time made a great deal of difference when we considered whether to buy a house on a busy main road. I believe that our properties will lose even more value if there is no parking. I am greatly concerned that people think that doing this will assist the flow of traffic through Purewell! It will speed up the Traffic but there will still be hold ups due to the volume of traffic in general. I am not able to attend the meeting to hear the outcome but I for one will be praying that the councillors will see sense and put this proposal where it belongs! In the bin.
Road safety in heavily built up areas should be a primary concern for the council. Allowing buses and cars to travel faster than they do already will increase the likelihood of road accidents and incidents.
Removal of parking spaces from Purewell will cause serious parking problems for the residents in and around Purewell, as cars are forced on to surrounding roads, which already experiencing parking difficulties.
For most of the day, the parking spaces are lightly used, which gives buses ample passing spaces, without the need for increased use of double yellow lines. Adding double yellow lines to Purewell will simply shift the traffic into longer queues at the Stony Lane and Bridge Street traffic lights.
I strongly urge the Community Services Committee to reject the proposed traffic order.
