SMP2 and why I am not happy

I have been asked to explain why I am so concerned that policies in this plan are not acceptable to the residents of Purewell and Stanpit (included in the plan as Mudeford Town). Let me say to start that the complexity of the plan and the technical language used is enough to deter anyone from bothering to get past the first page. I only hope that the workshop and presentation in Saxon Square is in plain speak. That apart I have serious doubts about that persons who live along the coast are aware that policies are being driven by governments attitude that appeasement to the causes of flooding stems from their inability to provide proper funding even when conurbations like Mudeford are at high risk. Indeed the plan states that it is highly unlikely that the UK population would support financing coastal protection as the majority live in-land. This basic premise I find abhorrent but typical of this failed central administration.I must admit to being surprised that this Civil Engineering report also includes Social Engineering statements. So having been advised in the plan that we are to be marginalised it goes on to establish policies from which all future action in respect of flood prevention can be directed. Mudeford, including Stanpit, is to be classified as an area which will be subject of a policy of 'managed realignment'. This used to be titled 'managed retreat' but presumably this was too descriptive and was changed to temper concerns from the public as to where they would have to retreat to. As a major population area it could be compared with Poole Harbour, the only difference being the cumulative value of the property involved and at Poole Harbour the policy is 'hold the line', why am I not surprised and why should I as a councillor for the area not express my deep concerns that if this policy is confirmed then Mudeford is not only under threat but no funding will be available until some undisclosed line reached with the resultant inundation of property. No consideration to the sewage system which runs along the harbour and slight reference to potential pollution from inundation of the contents of the land fill upon which many houses have been built. So for me this plan does not give me the feeling that Mudeford as described in the plan will be subject to proper and innovative consideration when flood prevention schemes are designed and costed. Indeed quite the opposite as funding will be directed to the easy options as described in the plan. I do have other serious concerns and will be contributing to the consultation process but essentially my concerns are as described above. I hope that this is clear.
