Dorset wide 'Operation Road Safe' coming to a place near you.

Operation Road Safe is a multi agency ,year long project which combines a 'zero tolerance' roads policing approach with wide spread publicity, promotion and education. Enforcement, education and engagement with the public is the theme with the objective of cracking down on bad driving. In Christchurch we have seen an increasing concern from residents about anti social driving and speeding traffic on our congested roads but now with considerable financial support this Dorset initiative aims to deal with problem areas and reduce the number of accidents, injuries and complaints. A dedicated team of Police Officers will carry out daily covert and overt operations targeting key roads and road user groups at known high risk times and locations. Local intelligence will form a part of the basis of action as will statistics about incidents involving problem driving. In order to change drivers mindset so that they have a higher responsibility for road safety a Dorset media campaign will target drivers using hand held phones, seat belt offences, drink and drug driving and careless driving resulting in reckless, inappropriate or excessive speed. Marked and unmarked Police vehicles will be used as will the mobile camera safety teams. So the message is simple:- if you break the law whilst driving in Dorset you are much more likely to be prosecuted. Regular assessments will take place to see that 2010 a reduction in road traffic collision casualties is the result of this program. Watch this space!
