Shore Management Plan

I attended a workshop in respect of the, shortly to be announced, SMP2 by the company Royal Haskoning Ltd. Whilst this extends the current SMP1 by some 75 years it does give a sober and balanced view of what we might expect over the next 100 years in respect of flooding and establishes policies for all the areas along the coast from Poole to Hurst. Christchurch Harbour is fully analysed and policies recommended.
Thankfully there is room for the democratic process to contribute to the plan with local knowledge which may have some effect on the recommendations. I expect this report to be in the public domain very shortly. Whilst it is an highly technical tome the conclusions will shape thinking about our estuaries and coastline for many years to come with potential concerns following closely behind I have no doubt. My point is that this is a subject which requires a calm and measured approach, but that we all as 'coastline residents' should be contributors which obviously will require an understanding of the issues. In short when the report is published read it and if you have concerns be part of the consultative process.
