I heard last night that due to legal difficulties regarding road closure whilst modifications are made to the current system, these will not take place now until sometime in October. It is also apparent that this system in it's new form will likely be the basis of future installations in other hot spots around the Borough.
Whilst I on this subject Barry Sherwin made a very good presentation to Council last night about 'twenty is plenty' around Stanpit. His petition collected 380 signatures in a month highlighting the concern that residents have regarding this matter. He referred to the recent conservation area report which also highlighted this issue and related the problem to the fact that Stanpit was designed to take horses and carts not 44000 vehicle passes per week. Good point, I will now be following up to make sure this matter is given proper consideration.
Perception of speed and anti-social driving is a big issue in Christchurch and should have much more coverage than it does. Where ever I go I hear the same complaint and I think it time to answer the problem through a process of education and engineering solutions. Meanwhile we need more of the Barry's of this world to generate community action just like his petition.
