Portfield bye election.

Wow ! What a close call. Having reduced the Liberal share of the vote by 7% the excellent Conservative candidate lost by one vote.I was convinced that there was a degree of disquiet in the Portfield ward when I was campaigning for the County election. I put this down to the total lack of activity by the Liberal Councillors for the last two years. I now realise that one of them was unwell which is a shame because he was one of the better guys, but overall the response that I got was that nothing was being done for the Portfield community by any of the elected representatives. I hope that changes but have great doubts that anything will alter and I think that by the next time the local elections are held (May 2011) Portfield and Town Centre will be returned to the the heart of the Conservative group where they undoubtedly belong.This result must have sent shock waves down to the Christchurch cell of the Liberal Party and the message is clear, if you are a Liberal get elected and do nothing, the electorate will bite your bum. Town Centre take note!
