Purewell and Stanpit litter pick

It was an amazing and satisfying experience to clear the pathways, pavements open spaces and roads of the detritus of life scattered around blighting this great and beautiful place that we live. Nearly 30 helpers with special equipment including very efficient hand pickers, took only two or three hours to scour every nook and cranny in Purewell and deposit the litter into 'The Big Tidy Up' bags for collection later.Particularly pleasing was the presence of a few kids from Grange school who lasted the course well and I hope take a message back to their mates that sweet wrappers should be taken home and binned not thrown into hedgerows. One of my lasting memories was of a proper policeman fully uniformed and helmeted with a bright yellow plastic overall showing kids how to use the hand pickers. A great image and highly descriptive of the partnership between the Police and the community in Purewell and Stanpit. My thanks go to CPSO Martin Sparkes for a good initiative well organised and to everyone who helped a million thanks. Another partnership plus was the presence of Councillor's Denise and David Jones from Grange ward who toiled in the hedgerows of Burton Road and Councillor and Mrs Geary who was invaluable in respect of their local knowledge. In fact shopkeepers and residents could not believe their eyes to see five conservative Councillors cleaning up the place and were generous in their praise. And finally to Sergeant Malcomb Warrener who has now perfected the cooking of burgers and onions on the bar-b-Que to a five star culinary level. What a great day!
