Fishermans Bank
Yesterday I was approached by a very concerned young bloke who asked me to comment about the imminent closure of the footpath F22 along Fishermans Bank. Apparently he had been told by a Liberal canvasser just prior to the election that the Conservative group were bent on closing the path to the public.I pointed out that this was a complete fabrication and in any case the public right of way was long established and as far as I was concerned that is the way it will stay. Having reflected on this matter I think that this issue should be followed up as it could lead to disharmony within our community. So I have drafted a question for full Council as telling outright lies to voters in order to gain their vote brings the whole process and the Council into disrepute.I shall not be at that meeting due to business commitments so have asked Lucy to ask the question and sincerely hope that the result is a consideration by the standards committee. I want to make it quite clear that this is not sour grapes but a firm reaction to what I consider was the slanderous statements made by the Christchurch cell of the Liberal Party in order to gain votes at any cost.
