Christchurch Bowling Club

Our Liberal Democrat (Christchurch Cell) friends have decided that this is the time to highlight the plight of the Bowling Club in the centre of Christchurch, opposite the Kings Arms.Like all private clubs this is suffering from a reduction of membership and an increasing level of operating cost. It has to be said that the building work at the new hotel did not help but as I understand the owners paid a large sum of money to the club by way of friendly support. What I do not understand is just where our so called Liberal activists have been for the last two years. This matter has been under scrutiny by CBC officers for that long and ideas have been tabled by the Community Services Committee to the club for their consideration. Liberals sit on this committee so how come they decide that this is the time to accuse CBC of inaction. The facts are that CBC have been waiting for a response from the club for over six months to the positive suggestions and ideas tabled. If, as been suggested by the Liberals that the club should become a direct cost to Christchurch Council Tax payers, will they please publish how much they intend to increase the Council tax to pay for it.
