Fro-par on St Georges Day
What was a great morning at the old town hall to celebrate St Georges day was turned sour by our local rag admonishing Councillors for offering free beer (lionheart by Yates and Taylor) to shoppers in the Town Centre which is an alcohol free zone. The toast was made by the Mayor and many residents joined in the happy celebration.Whilst this may have been an oversight and I for one apologise most profusely if anyone was upset about the event, I do think that we were doing nothing more than engaging with our community in a very positive way and from what I remember no one took offence. We were within the curtilage of the Town Hall.It is regrettable that these zones have to be applied at all and whilst I thank the reporter for pointing out our error I do think it might be better to concentrate his/her concerns to Central Government whose 24 hour licence policy has caused us to take these measures. Notwithstanding all had a good time and St George was properly recognised. My message to the reporter, look for the positives, we live in a fantastic place, celebrate it.
