Yesterday a cat was savagely attacked on Marsh Lane by three dogs of the Staffordshire variety. The dogs belonging to one owner who saw the attack was not able to control his animals. Two children who were with the owner were also unable to intervene as they did not have leads for the animals. The cat subsequently died. The dog owners have been identified and Police dog warden and Environmental Health advised.
This is not the first time in the last six months that attacks of this nature have been recorded on the Marsh and whilst evidence does not exist that confirms that this is the responsibility of the same owners the description of the animals is very similar.
The dangerous dogs act is explicit in respect of this sort of incident and CBC intend to pursue this matter to a conclusion that ensures safety for animals, small children and adults using the Marsh for recreation.
Should anyone have any evidence in respect of this matter please advise me via this blog or e-mail at cllr.rnottage@christchurch.gov.uk.
