Trees

Tomorrow at 9.30 am I will be getting together with the P/F holder for the environment and hopefully the deputy Leader and senior officers with the objective of directing some sort of enquiry into the events that have caused such concern. All Councillors should be given the chance to contribute to an enquiry as to what weaknesses in the system that allowed the TPO's to be impotent and what should happen in respect of the developers future conduct and the planting of new deciduous and indigenous semi mature trees. Going forward the planting locations should be made available as soon as possible.

  1. Any enquiry must include an investigation into the reasons why this planning application was granted despite widespread public opposition and fears, subsequently realised, that it would impact negatively on Druitt Gardens. It also must be independent of councillors and officers for the citizens of this town to have any confidence in its conclusions. Is there a local goverment ombudsman that the matter can be referred to?

  2. Agreed. The whole application should be investigated by an independent body. It's the only way the council can gain any creditability.

  3. Lets hope the inquiry doesn't just look for blame, although something has gone seriously wrong with this procedure, but make darn sure it doesn't happen again.
