At a local level the planning application for a new Morrison supermarket will be presented to committee on Thursday. As ward Councillors myself and Cllr. Davis have been watching events very closely and were highly impressed with the number of Stanpit and Purewell residents who have written to the planning committee in support of the application. We conclude therefore that there is local support for this project and have written to the committee accordingly.
How does supporting a project which will introduce approx 70,000 car journeys (developers figures)to Stony Lane fit in with your plans "to start thinking as to how we can improve the pedestrian/traffic balance in the High Street to make the Christchurch experience even better"?
ReplyDeleteCould i ask for some actual figures. You are 'highly impressed with the number ... who have written in support of the application.' Perhaps we could have the actual numbers:
ReplyDelete1) In favour
2) Against
3) Uncommitted
Or maybe we should just take your word for it?
assessor.

"... there were 100 objections to the superstore planning application, with 17 people pro the development and three undecided".
Maybe they don't like the idea of approx 70,000 car journeys to Stony Lane in the same way Councillor Nottage does.
Personally I'm not impressed
Thanks do much for this information. I just took Cllr Nottage at face value when he said: "We conclude therefore that there is local support for this project and have written to the committee accordingly."
ReplyDeleteI thought that the Councillors were meant to represent us and Mr Nottage, as our Glorious Leader, to be the exemplar of democratic, honest and unbiassed representation. I've been nice to him over the last months, but this misrepresentation has annoyed me! Isn't Stony Lane already a disaster?
Re manipulation of figures.
ReplyDeleteI am under the impression Simons Group are quoting the overall figures of support since the original proposal was put forward 2-3 years ago (although it still seems high)and not this current proposal which I would have thought is the one the Dear Leader should be influenced by.

ReplyDeleteSorry, previous comment removed - typo.
ReplyDeleteOK, so maybe he could give us the current figures, or should we use a freedom of information request (FOI)? If we are given the figures, and they are accurate, then no problem. Not being stroppy about this, I just think that as he is quoting this - in a very vague manner - then we should have the actual, up-to-date numbers so we can judge for ourselves!
On a completely different tack but assuming you are monitoring these comments Councillor Nottage, re your computer virus, have you tried Phil Manley of Compufix?
ReplyDeleteOver time he has replaced two of my infected hard drives without losing data.
Local lad and nice bloke.

Let's see the figures.
ReplyDeleteThe numbers are included in the planning application which can be accessed via Dorset for you. They are available to all to see and are a result of residents writing and petitioning the planning officers through the planning department. In addition our view comes from the ordinary residents with whome we have contact with as Councillors. On balance many more have supported than opposed. We are reflecting our residents views, something we are continually accused of not doing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the contact re the virus but I have been using a specialist who has advised that the computer I not repairable so Apple Mac here I come!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray. Couldn't find it on Dorsetforyou (I'm sure it's there) but found it in The Echo: "The application has so far received 862 letters of support with 254 objections."
ReplyDeleteThanks I do not want the impression that they are my figures but planning advise me that a further 600 plus names appear on three extra petitions all supporting. This will be detailed as normal in the planning meeting. So my impression is that coupled with the direct representations made to Bernie and myself that there is a majority of support for the Morrison scheme.
ReplyDeleteWho was the character that turned up on my doorstep canvassing support for the scheme? Very well spoken, I suspect he was working on behalf of the applicant. I told him I would not be signing his petition because the last thing Christchurch needed was more menial minimum wage shelf stacking jobs.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused, I thought I knew how to use the Planning Application site fairly well considering how badly it is constructed but blessed if I can find a reference to the number of letters, including mine, written to Planning other than "Public comments can only be viewed at the Civic Offices".
ReplyDeleteA link would be appreciated.
Also, of those you have contacted as Councillors how many live in Purewell or Bridge Street?
We are the ones who are going to suffer the bulk of the 70,000 car journeys per week to Stony Lane.
You're not reflecting our views, but the views of those of us who desperately wish to see a reduction in traffic in this area will be reflected in the next local elections.
Re virus, Apple a good route to go for security if you/we can afford it ;-)
Yes, I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't find it. There is a lot about dorsetforyou which is good, but I had no idea how to search for this information. It's fine for people who are used to it - presumably - but if you just want to check one or two applications once or twice a year, it's rather difficult.

ReplyDeleteMany thanks to Councillors Dedman, Bungay, Smith, Mawbey, etc for putting Christchurch first.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute shame on the rest.
