an exciting delivery

My new grandson was delivered on Tuesday, my fourth grandchild and one that I am especially proud of as he has mine as his middle name. So my eldest grandson is 23 and jumping out of airplanes in Australia, the next eldest has just been awarded an apprenticeship and so is on his way then to a grand daughter of three years and now a new born. Quite an age spread and a guarantee I think that I am to be constantly reminded of what real life is like through the eyes of the young for many years to come. Important because it seems to be so easy to get set in your ways and thinking without the constant reminders of the problems facing our children and indeed the problems facing all of us in this uncertain world. I was reflecting on this when listening to a person speaking at a recent residents meeting about planning and modern architecture. It occurred to me that we are indeed very fortunate to live where we do and if we are concerned about change we could be well advised to dwell on our advantages as well as being a bit more expansive in our thinking. I do not think that fixed attitudes or cynicism has any place in a thriving community like Christchurch and although we have a high percentage of elderly residents, I find very few who are so set in their ways that they reject on principle anything that challenges their opinions. That few miss the excitement of a new delivery.
