IER coming to us all soon.
What is IER? From summer 2014 the registration system for voting will change. The Government is proposing that each person will have to register individually rather than by household. Identifying information will be required such as D.O.B. and national insurance number when applying to register for voting. Verification will then be established against D.W.P information before the applicant is added to the register. Alternative forms of evidence will also be accepted to prove identity. This is unlikely to effect voters for the 2015 election unless they use proxy or postal voting, they will need to register by end of 2014 should they not do so then they will lose the right to vote in this way. Christchurch is being very proactive in ensuring that this new system will operate properly by testing extensively the connections and communication with the D.W.P. throughout this summer with a canvas for the end of 2013 commencing sometime in late Autumn. There will be more information coming shortly but the above is a short précis of what we can expect.
