Whilst it was working and that was not very long, I understand we had over 60 viewers of the Councils new web cast of last night’s meeting. Technical problems with the installation curtailed the system so it is difficult to gauge success or not. My view is that we should give it another go and make sure the system is technically sound. An extra 60 persons in the chamber last night would have been very difficult to accommodate, so in the interests of our ongoing transparency agenda I would be happy to see a repeat at a later date.

I tried three times, at 20 or 30 minute intervals, to see this last night, and it never worked. Sorry to say, but as an ex-computer teacher I consider it inept. WHY wasn't it trialled properly in an empty chamber on a private link before it was advertised as a wonderful new breakthrough, please look? What was the hurry? It was not a great start.
On another point, it is all very well describing that, 'An extra 60 persons in the chamber last night would have been very difficult to accommodate' - can't you understand that they wouldn't have come if it involved travelling to the Council Offices and sitting there in person, so there wouldn't have been 60? Of course, this idea might have been so that more people could see it, though they wouldn't have come to a meeting, in which case it matters that it works. People were trying it out at home, the purpose of this, and it turned out to be impossible. As I said earlier, inept!
Could I also ask why your CAPTCHA settings are so tight? I use medium on my website, and get almost no spam. It's not as if this needs to be immensely secure. Medium would be fine and would avoid posters having to refresh sometimes ten or more times to find something they can read!
actually it was trialed before the meeting and worked ok, something gliched after ten minutes with the actual camera which was not repairable cos the meeting had started. I will check with my guy about the CAPTCHA setting thanks for the heads up.
Can't agree with your inept comment or in fact the point you make about residents attending, we have a good turnout for most full council meetings.
Thanks for your reply
I know they are well attended, I've been to several. Perhaps you should have put this more carefully. You say, "Technical problems with the installation curtailed the system so it is difficult to gauge success or not. My view is that we should give it another go and make sure the system is technically sound." You never said that it had been successfully trialled, you described it as problems with 'the installation'. I stand by my previous comment, inept. It is crucial that it works the first time. Perhaps you should have said in your original blog that there as a problem with the camera - though it was unlikely to have been the camera, more a configuration issue - hardware is much more reliable than software!
