Message from the Queen
I had a great weekend, on the one hand meeting my old classmates some of which I have not seen since the day we left school and then joined my family in celebrating my in-laws diamond wedding anniversary. Sixty years, coinciding with the Diamond Jubilee of her Majesty the Queen and to their complete surprise a recorded delivery came on the day containing a delightful message from the Queen. Complete with tassels the message sits resplendent on the mantel shelf for all to see. In 1952 a pint of beer cost one shilling (5p), if you were fortunate enough to buy an ordinary house it would be worth today something like one hundred times the price paid in 1952. These 'values' do not however compare with the added value from the contribution of my 'in laws' and in fact all those who struggled through dark economic times very similar to today, and of course the heady good days, in the last sixty years. Their family, sons, daughters, grandchildren are testament to their resolve and contribution.
As far as my reunion went and considering I had not seen these mates for over fifty years, the comment made of 'you haven't changed a bit' must mean that I looked old before my time. Complete nonsense but nice to hear!
