Yesterdays surgery
I am very fond of St John's church at Purewell Cross; it has a modesty which I find really beguiling, a charming history and a centre of the ward location which makes it ideal for us to hold our monthly surgery. Yesterday was in fact really busy with a steady stream of residents many of which were regulars, popping in to tell us about issues being dealt with including the pending yellow lines in Purewell Close or the traffic safety issue at Purewell, all successfully resolved by Cllr Davis. Pleasing also to see new faces checking up on the bus situation referred to at the last SAMRA meeting and the problems, now passed hopefully, we experienced at Waterloo Bridge due to the breakdown of the road surface. What I did find surprising was the lack of any resident concerns about the Dorset Waste Partnership (DWP) considering that the new service had just been rolled out but it does seem that in general the collection system has been well received across the ward. I know that in some areas there has been a bin supply issue but as I understand it this is being resolved. Personally I found the separation of food and recycling waste really quite interesting because it brought home just how much extra we as a family can recycle and the fact that we can now include plastic bottles a real bonus. I keep my fingers crossed that the whole process going forward goes as smoothly as the first week. It was good to see our PCO Sparky in attendance and also good to hear that he will be arranging a PACT meeting in November, details to follow. We will at that meeting be introduced to our new beat Officer who has taken over from PC Joel Brooks who has moved to Bournemouth. So a Saturday morning well spent engaging with our community.

I agree about the surprising amount of waste which isn't recycled. I live in a flat which isn't involved in this scheme. Recently I started taking recyclable stuff to put in the bins at Sainsbury's: no waste of petrol, I take it when I'm shopping anyway. A bin bag now lasts about ten days!
I have just made DWP aware of the untidy state of that recycling area at Saisbury's. I hope that they have done something about it. I think that the responsibility will pass to Sainsbury shortly so hope to see more improvement.
They have, I think. There are one or two notices saying that the waste must be put in the bins. It used to be awful, bags full of cans, bottles, paper etc left strewn around by people who couldn't be bothered to put it in the bins (would take about 30 seconds!).
