Police and Crime Commissioner advertising
I am a bit concerned about the level of violence demonstrated on the latest television adverts for the Police and Crime Commissioner Election due next month. It seems to me to totally exaggerate the situation and position we in Dorset enjoy in respect of levels of injury from violent crime. This exaggeration does not help in our quest to reduce 'fear of crime' in our communities which is a key objective, so now we at the Dorset Community Safety Partnership see it as our duty to counter this advertising with our own reassuring message that violent crime has fallen over a five year period and the resulting notional savings to our communities as a result, runs into many hundreds of thousands of pounds and as a result our communities both rural and urban have recorded that they do feel safer by day and by night. Conurbations may experience more or different levels of particular types of crime but we should remember that the Police and Crime Commissioner will inherit a brilliant record of partnership within the community safety sector agencies across the whole of Dorset and should be reassuring our communities that this trend will continue with his/her support for existing structures and management.
